I THINK I'M WRONG!
I need to make a correction to my light speed thoughts!!!!
OK, you're on Earth looking at a star that's 10,000 lightyears away. What you see is what that star looked like 10,000 years ago, so if you traveled at the speed of light to reach that star, when you get there it will appear as it truly was when you saw it.
OK, say that star blew up 7,000 years ago, but we still see it's light from 10,000 years ago. When you get there it will have been gone for 7,000 years.
BUT HERE'S THE REALLY SCREWED UP PART!
The light from Earth that you'd see would be the Earth from when you left, meaning that the Earth is actually 10,000 years older. So when you go back it will be to the true Earth from your viewpoint at the star 10,000 lightyears away.
In conclusion:
Traveling at lightspeed (Or close seeing as the differences in time allowed for traveling would only be a few years), a round trip to a star 10,000 lightyears away would only result in a 10,000 year lapse on the original departure point.

I'm leaving all my friends little (and by little I mean like gigantic essay) notes for the holidays.
Unfortunately, this includes you.
Chances are that you'll probably see this in like May 2006 or something but no one can say I didn't try.
I don't miss freezing off my rear-end and playing with icicles for fingers (even though we've got holiday lights to relive that experience), but I miss all my friends (specifically those in gold band) and especially the seniors I've gotten to know and loathe. hehe
It happens, that's life I guess. I try to keep in touch with people when I can but it just isn't the same. :-(
I just wrote to wish you a happy holiday break and I'm talking about band. I'm a loser... :-) I'm DIFFERENT, some might say. I just wanted to say I'm thankful for all my friends and no matter how much I torture you (and vice versa), you're cool in my book and I see great things in store for you. Even though you have and extreme case of sarcasmitis, you’re nice (hah!), funny and straight-forward and have a good sense of humor. If you think this is too much, read Kristen Diddle’s, it’s LITERALLY an essay!
I hope you enjoy thanksgiving, take care and de-stress cuz we won't have another break til... well, later.
